There is a reason why we call ErgoGenix ErgoShred the “Good Mood” Fat Burner. It is because of β-Phenylethylamine HCL. If you’ve ever heard of the incredible mood and cognitive enhancer PEA, then this is it.
In short, PEA is an incredible, natural dopamine booster, and is what makes you “feel” so damned good when taking ErgoShred. You may have heard of this before – it’s derived naturally from several dietary sources, including chocolate! In fact, scientists postulate that the PEA inside is the reason why chocolate serves its purpose as an uplifting food.
What is Phenylethylamine HCL?
PEA is a neuromodulator / neurotransmitter in mammals that changes the levels of another neurotransmitter, dopamine. Natural boosts of PEA levels in the brain give a “high” feeling, while naturally having too much or too little can lead to several cognitive diseases such as schizophrenia or depression.

Have you ever felt the “runner’s high”, or that incredible feeling during or post-workout? PEA turns out to be the main actor involved here.
Studies have shown that when you exercise more, you get a naturally boosted level of PEA in your brain. The phenylacetic acid that is excreted after exercise boosts 77% from this. The conclusion from this study is that exercise is an incredible therapeutic method for depression.
The question is, what happens when we take more PEA, such as what’s in ErgoShred?
In general, what you’re going to see are an increased mood, quicker response times, and a longer response duration — ie more mental focus.
Thus, this ingredient is an incredible cognitive enhancer that increases the dopamine levels in your brain, as well as block, some dopamine transmitters (so that they stay in your brain!)
But here’s the “bad” news — The chemical half-life of PEA is short (15 minutes), but after the initial effects wear off in roughly 45 minutes or so, a calm, soothing mood is maintained. These are from the active metabolites that are released after processing, so don’t feel like you’ve wasted money from the half short life. The other good news? You can take ErgoShred twice in a day so that you continue feeling great!
The point is, this ingredient is great to motivate you, but you cannot use the feeling as the reward itself! If you need something to boost your confidence to get to the gym, ErgoShred will do that. However, you need to get to the gym to keep the natural PEA levels high and long-lasting on an almost-daily basis (rest days are always good, of course).
What about PEA For Fat Loss Itself?
PEA does a couple of things in ErgoShred, but to be honest, it’s more about the focus and motivation than anything related directly to fat-loss (lipolysis). Studies showed that when it comes to lipoylsis, phenylethylamine was “inefficient” at burning fat.
It’s definitely not going to hold you back or slow lipolysis, but it’s not actively burning and expending fat cells. That’s okay though — ErgoShred’s ingredients are full of fat burning agents — but this is the one that’s going to motivate you and reward you for hard work.
But it still behaves similarly to a very weak amphetamine thanks to this dopamine surge, and that means it stimulants you. The fact that stimulatory effects exist are good news though – anything that provides more energy puts you on the route to burning fat – whether it’s directly or indirectly (the latter being much of the case here).
Fact is, when you’re on PEA, you’re going to want to accomplish things. Take it just before your workout, and you’re going to want to hit the gym hard. It works great in that capacity, although we’re not seeing that it directly activates fat burning.
So while it’s in several fat burners like ErgoShred, it’s normally in there for the uplifting effects described above.
What are internal effects of PEA / Phenylethylamine?
Unfortunately, we’ll cut right to the chase and state that there isn’t a whole lot of research on PEA when it comes to fat-loss / weight loss.
β-phenylethylamine has varied effects depending on how it is used. As a disclaimer, ErgoShred is not intended to cure, treat, or diagnose any disease, and you must consult a licensed physician before using any supplement or changing your diet. It should also not be taken with prescription drugs unless under a doctor’s orders.
Too little natural PEA is a bad thing, but so is too much!
Children with ADHD and autistic disorder were shown to have less PEA in their urine, suggesting that it is naturally lower than in children without these disorders.
Conversely, patients suffering from schizophrenia tend to have elevated levels of dopamine and phylethylamine in their brains, so too much of this is also not a good thing. This potent ingredient can cause trouble if the exposure of the dopamine levels of using this drug goes beyond the blood barrier in your brain, which will only happen if you are on certain prescription drugs mentioned below. Again, this is why you should seek a doctor’s approval before using.
PEA Side Effects – Prescription Drug Users Beware!
The worst trouble can happen if you take PEA alongside prescription drugs such as MAO inhibitors. This is why you should never mix it with a prescription drug unless under a doctor’s orders.
MAO Inhibitors + PEA = TROUBLE
The reason why the half-life is so short is because Phenylethylamine HCL is quickly metabolized by the body by your monoamine oxidases A and B – otherwise known as MAO, and some other enzymes.
What’s that have to do with potential side effects? Well, if you are on a MAO inhibitor as a prescription drug, then the PEA will last FAR longer, to the point of being potentially extremely dangerous. This can lead to serotonin syndrome, which is non-curable and life-threatening. So speak to your doctor! This is why you should NOT mix ErgoShred with any prescription drugs unless under the direct supervision of a licensed doctor who has your entire medical history.
What about the Rest of Us?
Anyway, for the 99.9% of us that are not on these drugs, PEA has been linked to rare occasions of migraines. Nobody has reported this while taking ErgoShred, but if you are migraine-sensitive, it’s worth noting this risk.
B-Phenylethylamine HCL and ErgoShred
This ingredient is carefully integrated into ErgoShred to create one of the most potent weight loss supplements that is on the market today. Mixed with the other ingredients of ErgoShred, this ingredient serves as a stimulant that improves the other natural fat burning processes created by the rest of the ingredients.
In the rest of the ErgoShred Ingredients list, we show that every single ingredient is somehow related to burning fat, and they are all “kickstarted” by a reasonable dosage of caffeine. There is nothing that will give you major appetite suppression – we WANT you to work out and eat. The PEA here is the one ingredient that’s really not doing much in terms of burning fat, but it sure will get you in the MOOD to burn fat and eat right. And that’s half the battle, if not more!
You can use the price comparisons on this page to find the best deal on ErgoShred, but first, we urge you to read up on the other incredible ingredients!
